Around 2:40 this morning, Task Force 81 was dispatched to the area of N. Grove Ave and Simpson Ave for a reported dwelling fire. Upon signing on radio, Chief 801 was advised that police were on location with heavy smoke showing from the dwelling. 801 arrived and confirmed the report, and requested the working fire box be dispatched. He also advised the Gloucester County Communications Center that a total of five people may be trapped inside. Engine Company 812 (National Park)… arrived quickly and established their own water supply and stretched a 1-3/4 hand line to begin an interior attack. Ladder 736 and Quint 51 (Gloucester City) arrived a few minutes after and began to ventilate the dwelling, as well as place ground ladders to the roof. Due to quickly deteriorating conditions, crews were evacuated off the roof and from the inside of the dwelling and went into a defensive operation with Multiple hose lines to bring the fire under control. Thankfully, the report of people trapped was not true and nobody was home at the residence at the time of the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported. The fire is being investigated by the Gloucester County Fire Marshals office. Thank you to all our other mutual aid companies that were also on scene, including Bellmawr, Verga, and Colonial Manor.
