⚠️ Just before 7:30am a commercial utility truck crashed with a passenger vehicle along Rt. 295 northbound in West Deptford, and overturned off the Hwy. into the Hessian Run Tributary, adjacent to the north bound on ramp by West Deptford High School.

🚨 2 occupants of the submerged commercial wreckage were heroically rescued by a nearby NJDOT Safety Service Patrol (SSP) Operator, passerby’s who stopped to render aid, and responding West Deptford Police Officers. Both occupants were transported to a nearby hospital, by Gloucester County EMS, with reported non life-threatening injures.

🚨 The wreckage caused a significant fuel leak into the tributary. County Hazmat crews responded to assist West Deptford Fire Department and Westville Fire Department with the spill during the incident. FD personnel with swift water gear assisted during mitigation and recovery efforts. The USCG has been notified and are responding to support spill control efforts of this tidal waterway. A private environmental cleanup company has been contracted to further assist in cleanup efforts along the marsh and waterway. NJDEP has been notified of the incident and their Bureau of Emergency Response personnel are on the scene. 

🚧 Multiple northbound lanes remain closed at this hour, with additional support by NJSP & NJDOT. Please seek alternate routes of travel in the area.

⚠️ 1:00pm UPDATE: All lanes have reopened. Some mitigation or Hwy. crews may be working on the shoulder through the day, please remain alert!
