The Westville Fire Department and the Capano Family owners of Westville Square, Announce the Rededication and Purchase of Prosperity Hall on June 18, 1921 by the Union Fire Company No.1.
Come celebrate the 100th Anniversary with us as we unveil the Rededication Plaques on Friday June 18, 2021, 7PM at Broadway and Pine Street, Westville, New Jersey.
The Union Fire Company No. 1 was established in 1898 and their first firehouse was located in the Newbold section at Crown Point Road.
On June 18, 1921 the Fire Company purchased Prosperity Hall (Built in 1899) at Broadway and Pine Street. This building housed the Union Fire Company until December 31, 1987. On January 1, 1988 the Westville Fire Department was formed. The Union Firehouse continued to be utilized by the Fire Department until August 1989, when all Fire Department operations were moved to Broadway and Olive Street.
Since 1921 a purchase plaque was mounted on the building. After the 1975 renovations the purchase plaque and a Fireman’s Prayer plaque were located on the front façade. These plaques were removed when the Capano Family bought the building from the Fire Department in October 1992 and renamed the building as Westville Square.
This June 18th marks the 100 Anniversary of the Union Fire Company acquiring Prosperity Hall to provide better fire service to the Borough of Westville. Come join us and celebrate as we re-dedicate and reinstall a replica purchase plaque and Fireman’s Prayer plaque back onto the Building.
