WESTVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCEMENT SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 19, 2022
As we did this past June, We honored the Union Fire Company No.1 for the 100th anniversary of the purchase of Prosperity Hall.
The Westville Fire Department announces the Rededication of the Independent Fire Company No. 2 at Broadway and Olive Street on the 100 Anniversary of the original dedication of the building on August 19, 1922.
Come celebrate the 100th Anniversary with us as we unveil the Historical marker on Friday August 19, 2022 at 7PM Broadway and Olive Street, Westville, New Jersey.
We are also happy to announce after a 22 years absence from the front ramp of the firehouse the original bell. The bells history dates back to 1910 and was located on the corner for decades. The bell will be replaced and rededicated that evening!
The Independent Fire Company No. 2 was established in 1907 and their first firehouse was located in the Victoria section on Chestnut Street.
In 1919 the Fire Company purchased land at Broadway and Olive Street for a new building. The building was built and dedicated on August 19, 1922. This building housed the Independent Fire Company No. 2 until December 31, 1987. On January 1, 1988 the Westville Fire Department formed and in August 1989 all Fire Department operations were moved to Broadway and Olive Street were we remain today!
The original one story building from 1922 is still here today (The door near Olive Street and the two windows originally the bay doors.) Over the past 99 years the building grew with time with the following expansions. The second story was added to the original building in 1939. The next expansion, two story with two additional bays were added to the north side in 1955. The last major addition also to the north side a drive through bay with stair tower to the second floor hall in 1968.
1 year from today August 19, 2022 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Independent Fire Company building dedication ceremony at Broadway and Olive Street to provide better fire service to the Borough of Westville. Come join us and celebrate the membership that served and we re-dedicate and reinstall the bell back to the Building.
